Can I apply if I already have a degree?

Learn whether you can apply to a Makers programme if you already have a degree and how eligibility works for apprenticeships and bootcamp routes.

Yes. Having a degree does not automatically prevent you from applying to a Makers programme.

Many people join Makers with degrees in a wide range of subjects, including areas that are not related to technology.

What matters most is whether the programme is the right route for developing the skills needed for a technical role.

Applying for apprenticeships

For apprenticeships, there are some government eligibility rules to consider.

In general, you can apply for an apprenticeship if your existing qualification is in a different subject area from the apprenticeship you are applying for.

For example, someone with a degree in history, business or another non-technical subject may still be eligible for a software or data apprenticeship.

Eligibility is assessed during the application process.

Bootcamp applicants

The Makers bootcamp is open to applicants regardless of whether they hold a degree. Many learners join the programme after studying subjects unrelated to technology and are looking to transition into a technical career.

Different routes into technology

There is no single path into the technology industry. Some people come through university degrees, while others develop their skills through practical training and work experience.

Makers programmes are designed to help people build the capability needed to succeed in technical roles, regardless of their starting point.
