Do I need GCSEs to apply?

Learn whether GCSE English and maths are required for a Makers apprenticeship and what options may be available if you do not already have these qualifications.

Apprenticeships in England usually require learners to have GCSEs in English and maths at grade 4 (or equivalent).

If you do not already have these qualifications, you may still be able to apply. In some cases, learners complete Functional Skills qualifications in English or maths during the apprenticeship.

Eligibility requirements can vary depending on the employer and the specific programme.

What if I don’t have GCSE English or maths?

If you do not have the required GCSEs, you may be asked to complete Functional Skills as part of the apprenticeship. These qualifications help ensure learners have the core literacy and numeracy skills needed to succeed in the programme.

Your eligibility and any additional requirements will usually be discussed during the application process.

Bootcamp applicants

GCSE requirements generally apply to apprenticeships because they are government-funded qualifications.

The Makers bootcamp is a training programme rather than an apprenticeship, so the entry requirements may be different.
