How does career support work?

Learn how Makers supports learners through technical coaching, placement support and career guidance across both apprenticeships and bootcamp programmes.

Career support at Makers is designed to help learners develop the skills and confidence needed to succeed in technical roles. The type of support you receive depends on the programme you join.

Apprenticeships

For apprenticeships, learners are employed by an organisation from the start of the programme.

Because apprentices are already working in a role, career support focuses on helping them develop and progress within their team.

Learners receive support from:

  • Makers coaches, who support technical learning and development

  • Placement coaches, who help apprentices reflect on their progress and navigate working in technical teams

  • Their employer, who provides day-to-day guidance within the role

This combination of support helps apprentices continue developing throughout the programme while applying their skills in real workplace environments.

Bootcamp

For bootcamp learners, career support focuses on helping people transition into their first software engineering role after completing the programme.

After graduating, learners work with Makers career coaches who provide guidance and support during the job search process.

This support may include:

  • Connecting learners with hiring partners

  • Introducing opportunities such as paid placements

  • Reviewing and improving CVs and portfolios

  • Interview preparation and coaching

  • Access to networking events and employer introductions

The aim is to help learners present their skills confidently and navigate the transition into their first technical role.
