How long does a Makers programme typically last?
Discover how long Makers programmes run and how apprenticeships combine structured learning with real workplace experience.
The duration of a Makers programme depends on the type of programme.
Apprenticeships run over a longer period to allow learners to develop skills while working, while bootcamps are shorter and more intensive.
Apprenticeship programmes
Makers apprenticeship programmes typically run for between 12 and 18 months.
During this time, learners combine structured learning with real workplace experience. They remain employed in their role while developing new skills through training, projects and coaching.
The programme also includes preparation for the End-Point Assessment, which formally assesses the apprentice’s skills and knowledge.
Bootcamp programmes
The Makers bootcamp is an intensive 16-week programme designed to help learners quickly develop practical software engineering skills.
Bootcamps involve full-time learning and hands-on project work, helping learners build the capability needed to transition into technical roles.
After completing the programme, learners receive support as they move into engineering roles with employer partners.
Learning alongside work
For apprenticeship programmes, learners remain employed throughout the programme and apply new skills directly within their role.
This allows organisations to build capability while employees continue contributing to their teams.
